Our Maritime Expertise
Seafarers Secretary was founded on a deep understanding of the maritime industry and the operational demands faced by crew and vessels worldwide. Led by a director with over 13 years of experience within the Superyacht Industry — including six years serving as Chief Stewardess/Purser on vessels ranging from 40–70m — the company combines firsthand onboard expertise with extensive administrative and logistical experience supporting crew internationally.
Prior to entering the maritime sector, Kristin spent two years in London working as a Personal Assistant and Property Manager for a property developer, building a strong foundation in organisation, discretion, logistics, and high-level client support before studying Law and Accounting at Stellenbosch University. This unique combination of maritime experience, operational management and passion for legislation; continues to shape the company’s highly specialised approach to crew administration.
The foundation of Seafarers Secretary was built during the COVID-19 lockdown where South African seafarers were prohibited from leaving the country, leaving thousands unable to return to work offshore. In response, the team became founding members of the LISA Group (Locked In South Africa), working directly with government departments, maritime authorities, embassies, and international organisations to advocate for legislative change and crew mobility.
Through these efforts, Seafarers Secretary facilitated the return of the first 2,000 South African seafarers and agricultural workers to international employment opportunities. The first outbound flights permitted to leave South Africa during lockdown carried crew members whose travel, documentation, approvals, and logistics had been coordinated through these initiatives — a milestone achievement that distinguished the company as a trusted authority within the industry.
This unprecedented undertaking required extensive coordination with DIRCO, Home Affairs, SAMSA, international maritime organisations, and embassies worldwide. The relationships, operational knowledge, and global network established during this time continue to provide Seafarers Secretary with a level of industry access and expertise unmatched within the South African maritime administrative sector.
Today, Seafarers Secretary provides professional shoreside support tailored specifically to the needs of yacht crew, captains, and vessels. Acting as a trusted extension of the onboard team, the company specialises in simplifying complex maritime administration, reducing operational pressures, and ensuring crew can focus on their careers at sea while their administrative responsibilities are managed efficiently ashore.
